Introduction 2024

With this issue of Cupiditas, maiz celebrates a significant milestone - our 30th anniversary. It was the requests of migrant sex workers that laid the foundation for maiz’s creation and have continued to shape our organization ever since. We owe our existence to them, as they boldly demanded their rights.
We reflect on years of collective discussions, solidarity, and resistance. Our work and collective struggles are built on alliances, cooperation, connections, exchange, cohesion, and solidarity.
Nevertheless, this issue cannot be written without addressing the ongoing violence that sex workers face daily.
Violence that manifests through discrimination, stigmatization, and exclusion, causing sex workers to fear disclosing their profession. Violence that perpetuates precarity and fuels existential anxieties.
We mourn the loss of the three sex workers murdered in Vienna in February 2024, and we grieve for all those whose lives have been taken by a patriarchal, anti-sex work, anti-queer, racist system.
We demand an end to violence against women, migrants, trans people, and sex workers!
We urge everyone to take responsibility and join our struggles to make this world a place where everyone can live with dignity.
We extend our special thanks to the sex workers who have contributed, provided feedback, and shared their stories to shape and enrich this issue of Cupiditas.
Because there is no feminism without sex workers, without migrants, and without trans individuals!
